The Municipal Development Partnership (MDP) is a pan-African organisation, whose objective is to support governments in their political determination to decentralise and to strengthen the capacities of local government associations in Africa. Since 1998, the MDP also organises the "Africities" Summit which takes place every three years and is the most important continental platform for policy dialogue on decentralisation and local governance. The next summit will be held in Nairobi from 18 to 24 September 2006 under the theme of “Building local coalitions for an effective implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in African Local Governments”.
