 Concern Worldwide
Concern Worldwide are the Irish Partners in this project, and in conjunction with Suas have brought the exhibition and a serious of events to Dublin in 2006 and Cork in 2007. In 2008, Suas will continue to work on bringing the programme to universities in the Republic of Ireland.
The first phase of Building Unity was launched by the Minister for Foreign Affairs in Dublin in September 2006. The Dublin leg of the event attracted over 10,000 people to the exhibition and our Family Fun day where we explored cultural diversity in a fun and engaging way.
We also ran seminars covering a wide range of topics such as cultural diversity at work, teaching diversity, and “Is the Irish Media Hideously White”. The seminars proved to be both lively and informative stimulating an in depth debate around the issues of diversity.
During 2006, members of the Trinity and NUI Galway Suas societies were so enthused about the campaign they decided to bring it to their own campus. Both college societies showcased the exhibition at their university’s Intercultural Week.
In 2007 the project moved to Cork where the 1,000 Families’ Exhibition was showcased in Fitzgerald Park from 14th July to 12th August. The exhibition was launch with a Family & Cultural Day that attacted over 3,500 people. Click here to see photos of the day!
