4 years, 5 continents, 250,000km, 1,251 families, 1 exhibition & 4 events

With a desire to highlight diversity in the world, German photographer Uwe Ommer traveled the globe for nearly four years, taking photographs of over one thousand families in 130 countries.

He believed that no matter where we are in the world, Iran, Mexico, or Rwanda, family is the backbone of every society. Family  is where we learn, grow, cry, laugh and who we share our life with.

The families he pictured come from many different ethnic backgrounds but as you travel through the exhibition you will see the common themes of love and respect that frame each of the photographs.

By visiting this exhibition and buying the book, Uwe hopes that you will reflect on our communion humanity while respecting and embracing our cultural diversity.

Published by Taschen the images from the exhibition were compiled in a book entitled “1000 Families: The Family Album of Planet Earth”. A special edition has been produced with a preface explaining the vision behind Building Unity through Diversity.

The book can be purchased from:
